Most engaged couples planning a wedding haven’t ever planned a wedding before so it can get confusing timing everything out.
It is very important to be realistic with time in case things run a little late or something unexpected comes up. I sit down with every couple I meet with whether or not they book their wedding with me. I ask questions and go over all the details of their day that they have planned so far. Then I jot down a timeline starting with the ceremony in the middle and the time. Depending on if photos are before or after I start filling in the rest of the day. From getting hair done and dress on until the dance gets going. I can tell from talking to the couple if there is a serious problem in timing between the ceremony and dinner or how long dinner will actually take. It’s easy to not realize that 100 guests might take 30 minutes for a receiving line but 300 guests is way over an hour. Because the photographer spends the entire day with the bride and groom they can be very helpful at keeping everything on time and the day relaxed. After 11 years photographing weddings I am very good at making sure the day runs smoothly and capturing beautiful and creative photographs. I have seen lots of problems that could have been prevented with a little better planning. When I work with a couple I not only want to do my very best capturing images of their day but I want to help make it the best day of their life together.

As 2010 fast approaches I have a few things I am working on and want to share.

1) I will not be raising any print prices for the third year in a row.

2) Any regular indoor or outdoor session is $50 dollars and any Senior Session is $100 no hidden charges for anything.

3) You will still be able to take home proofs to view and make your decisions with a $100 deposit.

4) I will still be running the studio by appointment only.

5) I will still be doing the Easter Live Bunny Special. (Date to be decided)

6) I will also be doing some new specials for children. (check back for more information.)

How many couples have I heard say "we don't have any recent photos of just the two of us, just our wedding photos". I have many photos of my husband and I and I love looking back on our 17 years together (especially how his glasses have evolved!). So give me a call and set up a session just for the two of you. When choosing clothing for photos keep in mind simple is better. You don't want to draw attention away from you with busy patterns and word on shirts. Solids are your best choice. Bring a variety of sleeve lengths so everything doesn't look the same. Make sure your clothes fit you well and aren't ill fitting. The most important thing is that you like what you are wearing.

When is the best time for outdoor photos?

Obviously weather is unpredictable, but the months of April through October are best. Early spring can be wet gloomy and there isn't any foliage. November the leaves are down and it is cold, wet and windy, typically. Winter snow photos can be fun if there is any. Photos taken while it is actually snowing cause spots so that can be tough. Going back to spring, summer and fall there are two optimum times of day, a few hours after sunrise or morning and the hours before sunset. The light is soft, warm and beautiful. Not to say you can't have a great session any time of the day it just takes a professional to work with the light.

Performing Arts Center

PAC dance studio is a fantastic place to take your child for dance. They have a very classic and traditional style. I have been fortunate to be able to photography these lovely dancers. Check out the dance recital being held at Mayer Lutheran H.S. on Saturday the 16th at 1:00. You won't be disappointed! If you know any dance, sports, or events that need a photographer please refer me to them. Thank you!

Waconia is such a great place to live, work, dine, shop, play, etc. If you want to stay updated on the "goings on" around town check these websites. www.destinationwaconia.org or www.waconia.org. In April don't miss the Waconia Business Home and Family Expo. It will tons of booths, food, speakers, and prizes. This will be very kid friendly. In May ladies might be interested in "Sister Saturday". Local business will have specials and sales. I will be taking Sister Portraits for $10 each (could be a mom, friend or cousin too). Just come to town and look for the pink balloons. We also have the Carver County Fair in August and Nickle Dickle Day in September, and many more events! Make Waconia a destination soon!

As you decide where to go for senior photos just remember that just because someone is really expensive doesn't mean they are better. I treat my customers as I would like to be treated. I am reasonably priced, I have convenient hours and I want the experience to be enjoyable. My studio is relaxed and casual. No one else is here when you are, it's your time. Bring your i-pods with your music, bring your friends, whatever makes you comfortable. I have many indoor backgrounds including a window light area, and lots of nice outdoor locations. My prices are clear and there should be no surprises. I don't require a minimum order or put you into a package. I want your session to be fun and I want you to get photos you love. Bunny Portraits are scheduled for Friday March 20th and Saturday March 21st this year. Appointments will be longer and that means there are less appointment times available than last year. I want to be able to offer more time for kids to relax and enjoy bunny time and also allow more time for parents to place their order. I will have two different backgrounds; light permitting. Session scheduling Information

There are a lot of things to consider when scheduling a portrait session. How old your children are, if you want indoor or outdoor photos, even what the season is. Be sure to give me as much information as you can when setting up a day and time so I can be sure to get you an appropriate session time. Those with little ones don't need me to tell them that the day can revolve around a child's schedule. I am happy to work around naps and fussy times. This seems obvious but if you want outdoors in the fall you need to consider the sunset. There is a window of opportunity for the beautiful afternoon and evening light. Fall sessions are great but I don't recommend them for a family with an infant. They can get lost in all the leaves and people. It also can get bitter cold on a fall day and even preschoolers can't handle a cold outdoor session. Fall leaves are hard to predict. (I wish I could!) Moisture, temperature, and wind can play a big part in when the leaves turn and what leaves are still hanging on. Please call with any questions about setting up a session at 952-442-8249

My studio

My Studio is located in downtown Waconia on Main street. From the east take highway 5 to the first stoplight in Waconia. (Main Street) Go right at the light and take it approximately 8 blocks and my studio is on the right.

I am open by appointment only but I am extremely flexible at fitting into your schedule.

I have been in business 10 years and I am a member of the PPA (Professional Photographers Association) the TCPPA (Twin Cities group) and I am a member of the Waconia chamber of commerce. I am also on the board of directors for the Chamber.

I have a full studio with window light as well as studio lighting. I love to photograph outdoors and I have many locations close by, also I have a membership at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.
